It was in the year 1901, that the first thought of making a motorcycle came into the mind of William S. Harley, who was just 21 years of age, at that time. After the 2 years were over, he along with his friend, Arthur Davidson again started to convert his idea into reality. Their hard work materialized and they were able to make a one cylinder engine and installed it on one of the conventional bicycles available at that time.
Though the engine was well fitted in the bicycle but it was not yet proven successful because it was not able to run on the hills without pedals. After one year of this, they created a better engine and that is how the first Harley Davidson bike came into existence with a 405cc engine.
